THE SOCIAL SPOT: ESTERS

Tucked in a refurbished 1937 Art Deco building, Esters Wine Shop & Bar strikes a delicate balance between classy and inviting for Santa Monica wine-loving crowd. The decor, a blend of Art Deco and Parisian flea market with racks of wine beautifully stacked from floor to ceiling, creates a relaxing ambiance in a bright space with ornate touches. And as a member of the RC Family restaurant group – a partnership between Josh Loeb & Zoe Nathan and Rustic Canyon’s Wine Director, Kathryn Coker, and her husband, Tug – you’re sure to find the perfect pairing for your meal. Esters offers a full seasonal menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, including favorites like their lavender almond appetizer and meat and cheese platters. The friendly wait staff and bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly, welcoming wine connoisseurs and novices a like. The extensive wine list features a range of sparking, reds, and whites from small producers to high-end.

Between the menu and versatile indoor-outdoor space, Esters is a great location for hosting private events. They make it easy with their customized event offerings, which include private wine tastings with a pairing menu curated by their chef and sommelier, a special menu curated by Huckleberry Cafe for bridal and baby showers, and even a cocktail hour for casual mixers before 7 p.m.

For anyone not throwing an event, there are still plenty of reasons to head to Esters. Stop by any time between 3 to 6 p.m. for their Sunday Tastings that features a different theme each week (i.e., Italian wines, biodynamic wines, rosé), to learn about the wines they carry and meet fellow wine lovers. For $25, you’ll enjoy five wines and cheese, plus 10% off the bottles in that week’s lineup. In addition to Happy Hour from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Tuesday is Burger Night until 6 p.m. or whenever they run out – which is a real possibility given the Esters burger’s cult following.
